Are you shopping for a pre-owned Jaguar? Among our large customer base and dealer contacts, we come across some excellent, reliable, pre-owned Jaguars. If you have a specific model/year in mind, feel free to contact us and we will check our sources. Have you found a candidate and want an independent assessment of the car? For a very modest fee we will give the car a far more thorough inspection than you could get from a non-Jaguar specialist. Occasionally we come across a car we can't resist buying ourselves and offering for resale after a full mechanical upgrade. Cars we have currently for sale are listed below:

We specialize in XJ-series Jaguars, usually out of warranty and often on their second or third owners. Which is not to say they are less wanted or loved. Quite the contrary! Many Bay Area Jaguar owners are seeking an independent, long-established Jaguar shop with expert technicians and access to original-equipment specification parts. We try our best to meet their needs, and have been doing so for more than 30 years. Our specialty is XJ sedans of all vintages that are used as daily drivers. Like their owners, we want these timeless classics to run forever, and do so affordably! But no matter what model Jaguar you own, older or current, we know it well and will give it the expert care it deserves. Personalized service is our motto and we'd very much like you to drop by with your Jaguar and say hello. Our warranty is unsurpassed: 12 months and unlimited mileage on all parts and labor. Following is a brief model-by-model overview of the Jaguars we see most often. Jaguar XJ: Series I, II, III, XJ40 Having worked on these modern classics since they were introduced, we know all their secrets and work with loving owners to keep them in service.
Revolutionary in design and features when introduced in 1968, the XJ Series I (1968 - 1973) was solidly built and reliable. Though they are now collector's items, many owners believe their Series I's should be daily drivers and use our shop to keep them purring at reasonable cost. The Series II (1973 - 1979) is more of a challenge. Factory takeover by British Leyland, with accompanying labor and management problems, resulted in a less reliable XJ. Still, a surprising number of loyal Series II owners are determined to keep their cars operational after all these years, and come to us for help. To many (especially its owners) the Series III (1980 - 1987) is the "ultimate" XJ. It benefited from new company management, a styling redesign by Pininfarina, and an upgrade in quality at all levels. Even 25 years after its introduction, a well-cared-for Series III can still be a real-world daily driver for owners fortunate enough to live in moderate climates like the one we enjoy in Northern California. With the XJ40 (1988 - 1994) things went downhill again. There were problems with the body, and numerous electrical gremlins. We have dealt with the XJ40's vices and virtues — it holds no more surprises for us. (Touch wood.) Among our customers are the most devoted felophiles (Jaguar lovers): owners of exotic XJ40 12-cylinder models who insist their cars be in top running order. We happily make them so. Recent Jaguar XJ6 (1995 - 1997) You make up the largest portion of our customer base. You are the second or third owner of the model that returned the XJ to the stunning beauty of the Series III, with the added benefit of hundreds of millions of dollars of investment in quality improvements by Jaguar's new owner, Ford Motor Company.
Your XJ6 is like a member of the family, but you are careful where you place your dollars and want the best of both worlds: a Jaguar, and reasonable maintenance costs. Without the backstop of a factory warranty, you need the services of an independent shop that knows how to repair parts when that approach is more economical than replacing them. Continental Motors is the answer to your need for Jaguar service. Our mechanics make their living the old fashioned way: They fix things. Jaguar XJ8 (1998 - 2003) As these cars come off warranty and change hands we see more and more of them in our shop for maintenance and repair. Their new owners (or the original owners who are now without warranty coverage) want maximum reliability and economy of operation. Their XJ8s are "keepers."
The last of the steel-bodied XJs, this car is destined to be a classic. With all-new electronics and a state-of-the-art four-cam V8, Ford's huge investment in upgrading the reliability of the Jaguar brand really paid off in this car. Yet, the XJ8 and its cousin the XK8 have their own maintenance issues. (See our backgrounder about the secondary cam chain tensioners in 1997 - 1999 V8 engines.) In servicing these near-current models, our goal is the same as yours: to ensure many years of reliable operation through time-proven maintenance procedures. The Sports Cars Whether it's a vintage XK120 or a supercharged XKR, we are experienced in the maintenance and repair of your Jaguar sports car.
The common factor among Jaguar sports cars, apart from their beauty, is a high performance-per-dollar ratio compared with their competition at Porsche and Ferrari. We help keep the cost of driving an exotic sports car within sane limits by providing reasonable shop rates and OEM parts, and an honest diagnosis of what your car needs. Other Jaguar Models If your car is a Jaguar, it’s a near-certainty that we have worked on similar models. Our knowledge of the Jaguar V12 in all of its incarnations is probably unrivalled in the San Francisco Bay Area.
The legendary twin-cam Jaguar six-cylinder is an old friend to us. Not so friendly but equally familiar are Lucas electrics and other components of, shall we say, a capriciously British nature. Every Jaguar model has its unique charms and challenges. Over 30 years of experience we like to think we know them all — though we admit we are still surprised from time to time. As with owning these cars, working on them is a labor of love, not explainable unless you factor in the mystique that is uniquely Jaguar. We at Continental Imports take pride in helping to make ownership of a Jaguar not just a privilege for the wealthy, but a practical possibility for regular people who, like us, will be satisfied with nothing less. |
